Defining Success Your Way!

By Ann Ronan, Ph.D. In my career advising practice, I often find that my clients are not clear about what success means for them. Our society defines success primarily around three elements: power, money and fame. Many of you reading this may be saying, wait a minute those elements are not the most important things to me. Success is often intangible. Its certainly unique to each person. Have you considered how you will know when you are successful? For one of my current clients, a definition of success is having autonomy in her work. She wants to set her own goals and direct her own activities. Shes considering part-time consulting work as a transition to her success. Another client defines success as a satisfying family and personal life shes looking for work that allows her flexible hours and telecommuting days. In her book, If Success is a Game, These Are the Rules, Cherie Carter-Scott gives several examples of success: financial terms enough to retire by 50 or to buy a cabin in the woods emotional fulfillment and stability a harmonious family life glory athletic accomplishments courage overcoming a serious illness or tragedy making a difference change peoples life in a positive way accumulation of knowledge and understanding Can you come up with 3 ways to measure success for yourself? Remember, there is not a universal standard or right definition of success. Define whats truly important to you. Once youve figured out what success means to you, you can realign your life, goals, and relationships around these priorities. A great way to start the process of defining success is to complete these sentences: The people I view as successful are. I feel successful when.. My symbols of success are. I will feel like a success when I. Youll need to work with your statements until they feel or sound just right. Once youve defined success, start taking action to reach it. Set powerful goals and get the support you need to reach them. Expect and learn how to cope with barriers such as fear of change, your yeah buts and fear of identity change. Success is a process that never ends. As you reach the height of one goal youll see another mountaintop youll want to climb. Along the way, dont forget to appreciate what you already have and to celebrate each small accomplishment that leads to the grand prize! How To Perform A Pre Paid Phone Card Check

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Dean_Caporella]Dean Caporella Prepaid phone cards have become a godsend for long distance callers in recent years however, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing with the phone card industry smeared to a certain extent by scammers and fraudsters. Legitimate phone card companies and sellers have had to ride amongst a tide of unscrupulous operators who in many cases do provide a card, but generally they are not worth the paper they are printed on. So how can you protect yourself against pre paid phone card fraud? There are several precautions you can take to safe guard yourself against losing your money. Four Security Tips 1. Check to see whether the company brand phone card has a point of contact. Very important particularly if you intend to be a long term user. Having a customer service base gives customers greater peace of mind in the knowledge that there is somewhere they can go if things go awry or to just simply seek further information. 2. Read the terms and conditions before purchasing your phone card. This has become a big issue recently where some customers have had no come back against less than fair practices. For instance, you want to clarify that there are no hidden fees or other costs involved with the card. It may look a cheap buy on the surface but is there something “unsavoury” lurking below the surface. You want and are entitled to full disclosure on all terms and conditions in most cases. 3.If buying a traditional phone card, be sure to check that it hasn’t been tampered with. Check the pin and be sure everything is intact. 4. Generally, be satisfied in your own mind that everything seems to check out. Experienced prepaid phone card users often will test a new service by purchasing a token subscription and then trying out the card. This way, they can see just how user-friendly the service is and more importantly, if there is a service at all. Is It Worth The Effort? You may be thinking why bother using a phone card if there is so much due diligence to perform before purchasing. In reality, there isn’t, when you compare shopping for a phone card to most other consumer goods. Performing some rigid checks isn’t all that time consuming and can prevent you from losing money unnecessarily. The advantages of using a prepaid phone card generally outweigh the disadvantages with extremely cheap call rates allowing people to communicate on a regular basis, not just state-to-state, but country-to-country. Once you become a little experienced at using a card service, the due diligence aspect becomes a breeze to perform. Another tip… when you find a company that meets all the requirements you’re after stick with them. Avoid the temptation to jump services because there is a slightly cheaper deal elsewhere. Scar Repair Through Z-Plasty Cosmetic Surgery

By Joseph Ducat A scar can be an unsightly mark to have on your body. It can greatly alter your appearance. Even if it is not too offensive, it can have a negative psychological effect on a person. Do you have a scar on body that you would like to get rid of? Well, there is now a simple plastic surgery procedure that can improve a scars appearance. It is called z-plasty and it is used to accomplish scar revision, by changing the direction of a scar, breaking the line of a scar, or lengthening a scar to decrease contraction. These techniques are basically meant to realign a scar, and in so doing make it less visible and less unsightly. Z-plasty is not effective on all kinds of scars. It is usually performed on scars that are linear and tight. Scars that are more complex, such as burn scars, hypertrophic or keloid scars, will require a different type of plastic surgery treatment, such as dermabrasion or other scar revision techniques. Even though it is a plastic surgery procedure, z-plasty is often covered by medical insurance in cases where the scar was due to an injury or a surgery that was covered by insurance. Z-plasty is a simple surgical procedure and it is usually not painful. In the procedure, you will first receive regional or local anesthetic. Then the plastic surgeon will make incisions creating two triangular flaps of skin, of equal size, that are then transposed. By transposing the flaps, the plastic surgeon is altering the direction of the original scar. The scar can be lengthened up to 75 percent and realigned in direction by up to 90 degrees, but those are only theoretical limits. In practice, the degree of reorientation tends to be smaller. The plastic surgeon will complete the z-plasty by suturing the flaps. The patient needs to return to have the sutures removed in 1 or 2 weeks. If you are considering z-plasty surgery, ask to see before and after pictures of a similar type of scar, so you know what results you can expect. I Just Want To Tone, I Don’t Want To Get Big

By Josh Stone Getting toned. I’ve been hearing this being said too often - especially by women. Then I came across a statement on ‘toning up’ in a friend’s blog (where he says ‘If you want to tone the muscle, use a light weight’) - and I think I need to say something to prevent more people from being misled by this term. Toning, or firming-up is a result of an an increase in muscle tissue as well as a low enough bodyfat percentage to actually ‘reveal’ the definition/shape of the muscles and eliminate the wobbly ‘jelly’ effect. Now, are you ready for the eye-opener? Muscles do not go from soft to hard or from hard to soft - they either shrink or grow bigger. Muscles DO NOT “firm-up” or “tone”! Surprised? Don’t be. So how do I get ‘toned’ then? In order to achieve the look of a ‘toned body’, you need to engage in strength training as well as shed that layer of fat covering your muscles, and there are no two ways about it. Just because you are not looking to get “bulky” or add muscle mass - it doesn’t mean that you should avoid stressing your muscles with relatively heavy weights (yes, this goes for both WOMEN and MEN). Your muscles need to be stressed in order for them to change and grow. And women - don’t be worried about getting ‘bulky’ - your body lacks the male hormone to do so (testosterone). Even men who HAVE testosterone find it difficult to bulk up, so trust me on this. So the next time somebody tells you that t hey just want to ‘get toned and not get big’, they’re actually saying “I really don’t wanna work hard/watch my diet, but just want a great body.” Sorry people… but it doesn’t work like that. Hot topic: Evangelicals Debate Global Warming

By Matthew Trumbull The atmosphere within the evangelical community has been heating up since the Evangelical Climate Initiative was introduced in early February. The statement, which is endorsed by more than 80 prominent evangelical leaders, asserts that climate change is an urgent problem and that the Christian faith mandates a strong response to global warming. Evangelicals have been reluctant to embrace environmental activism because of its connections with liberal agendas. The group as a whole has had a general tendency to prioritize spiritual rather than social and physical concerns. As scientific data increasingly supports observations of human-induced climate change, however, many are now taking action. It is a very appropriate move in terms of a biblical basis and, in fact, long overdue, said Fred Van Dyke, who teaches environmental ethics at Wheaton College. The evangelical community has long associated the environmental agenda with a liberal agenda, but they are getting over it. Roy Spencer, principal research scientist at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and former senior climate scientist with NASAs Marshall Space Flight Center, said he is concerned that the initiative focuses too strongly on activism and not enough on science. He helped the Interfaith Stewardship Alliance draft a 19-page monograph on global warming called An Examination of the Scientific, Ethical and Theological Implications of Climate Change Policy. The alliance is a coalition of religious leaders, scientists, academics and policy experts committed to applying a biblical view of stewardship to environmental issues. In the monograph, the alliance said that climate change science remains inconclusive. We cannot say for certain how much the planet may be warming, how much is due to human activities versus natural cycles, or whether these changes in global temperature would be mostly good or mostly bad for the majority of people, Spencer wrote in the monograph. Other prominent evangelical figures such as Focus on the Family chairman James Dobson, and Chuck Colson, founder of Prison Fellowship Ministries have also said they are concerned about the Evangelical Climate Initiatives stance on environmental policy. The media, in particular, has misrepresented the effort as the majority opinion among evangelicals, said Cal Beisner, an associate professor of historical theology and social ethics at Knox Theological Seminary and an adviser for the initiative. Because of this, he worked hard to discourage the 30-million member National Association of Evangelicals which has refrained from establishing an official statement on climate change from endorsing the initiative. What I would caution against is equating fidelity to the gospel of Jesus Christ with endorsement of a particular environmental scenario or policy response to it, said Beisner. I am concerned that the ECIs call to action hazards crossing the line in that regard. Despite their differences, ECI and the alliance both state that global warming is a problem that must be addressed, and both are motivated by a concern for those living in poverty. The tension is over the appropriate policy response. ECI urges preventative action and argues mandatory emissions reduction policy is necessary to combat the progress of global warming, which will have the most impact on the poor living in low-lying coastal regions. The alliance argues it is more prudent to invest in technology that will allow humanity to cope with a changed global climate. It also says mandatory emissions reduction policy will force a general increase in the prices of all goods and services that depend on energy as a production factor therefore, having the largest negative impact on the worlds poor Right now we have a government that has done nothing effective about global warming and doesnt listen to people like me scientists, said Mark Cane, professor of earth and climate science, and academic board member of the Earth Institute at Columbia University. They do listen to evangelicals, however, so [the Evangelical Climate Initiative] plays an important saving role. Matthew Trumbull is Web editor at Science & Theology News. 12 Simple Pleasures to Enjoy in April

By Susie Cortright Here are twelve simple pleasures to help you slow down and taste the sweetness of the simple life this month. 1. Take a walk out in the wide, wide world and pay attention to the signs that summer is on its way. 2. Give yourself a pedicure. Then go barefoot whenever possible. 3. Eat fresh fruit with each meal. Spring and summer bring such delightful fresh and healthy foods. 4. Dab some energizing essential oil behind your ears so you can enjoy the aroma as you go about your day. Try lemon, basil, bergamot, sweet orange, peppermint, eucalyptus, tangerine, or any floral blend. 5. Invest in some quality cotton sheets and breezy cotton pajamas. Fold up the flannels and put them away until next winter. 6. Send a bouquet of bright spring flowers to someone, anonymously. 7. Make a habit of buying simple things that make you feel as though you live in the lap of luxury: fresh raspberries, a silk eye pillow, homemade soap. 8. Ride your bike to work. 9. Plant something beautiful. 10. Choose a fresh floral perfume from your local cosmetics counter. Request a sample, or buy the bottle. 11. Sip a chai and browse the bookstore for a “beach book”…a simple, absorbing story that you can enjoy without thinking much at all. 12. Purchase a disposable camera and, in a single day, take photos of things in your life that you are grateful for. Put the prints in a mini book that you can carry with you. Now think of your own simple pleasures, and continue to enjoy one each day. Susie Cortright is the founder of Momscape.com and Susies-Coupons.com, where she features money-saving online coupon codes. Career Transitions: Creating Complementary Careers in a Day

By Kathy Iwanowski Down-sized? Outsourced? Burned-out? Wizened up? That’s what I said. Wizened up! Now is not the time to be depressed. Now, is the perfect time to assess your life and what you want to do with the rest of it. One easy way is to explore career options that are complementary to you. Whether you are leaving by choice or have been asked to leave, you probably have more courses of action then you think. Give yourself several, uninterrupted hours to perform this task. Find a quiet, comfortable place to sit. Have paper, at least five sheets, and pen ready. Do not use a pencil for this. You want to put down everything that comes to your head. No erasing or changing allowed. Relax, take a deep breath, and begin. Think about the job you just had. List all the types of businesses you or your company worked with while you were there. Include customers, vendors, suppliers, buyers, and strategic partners. Go to the second sheet. Make a list of all the skills you gained from your education and employment experiences. Don’t forget to include your first paper route or babysitting jobs. If nothing else, it will bring a smile to your face and keep you relaxed. On the third page, itemize your hobbies, interests, and favorite leisure activities. You can make these subcategories on the page or put into the same list. Finally, write down on the fourth page the careers you considered before going in the direction you did. Also, put down ones that you would consider dream jobs. Don’t let anything stand in your way here. Remember the operative word, dream. Disregard your monetary situation, your education, your appearance, age, or gender. If your inner critic shows up, and this is the place they usually do, tell them to go take a coffee break. This is your time to only listen to your soul talking. Finish up the list by adding any careers from comments that people have made to you over the years, such as, “You would have made a great teacher. You really know your history.” Take a moment and look over your four sheets of paper. You did a lot of hard work. Congratulate yourself with a stretch and go get yourself a favorite beverage. But, don’t let too much time go by, no more than ten minutes. You’re on a roll and you don’t want your bored inner critic to find you hanging out at the water cooler, if you know what I mean. Lay your four pages side by side across a table. Take your fifth and last sheet. List any combinations or connections from your four lists that could go together or would be fun to have go together. Your list may look something like this: IT person - tutors senior citizens about computers and email. Boat captain - runs ecotourism tours for the visually disadvantaged. Nurse - owns a wellness spa. Pilot - is an aviation school owner and expert witness. Your complementary career options are only limited by your creativity. This is the time to be open to all ideas and daring in your resolve to consider them seriously. Seek out others who have blended careers or made career transitions successfully. Study the biographies of people like stars, sports personalities, and even military personnel. Many have made transitions out of necessity or desire. Soon, you’ll find yourself moving into a life you had never before dreamed possible. Copyright 2005 Kathy Iwanowski. All Rights Reserved. Wedding Gift Ideas - Gift Ideas for Flower Girls and Ring Bearers

By Natalie Aranda Planning a wedding is as exciting as the big day itself, once the engagement is official. From the early setting of the tentative time and place for the wedding ceremony and reception, to all wedding gift ideas for the bride, groom, bridesmaids, groomsmen, flower girls and ring bearers, there is to much to do, starting with the selection of the wedding-party participants and their roles. As sweet as candy canes and candy bars, children are an important part of your wedding party, and the number of them participating as flower girls and ring bearers are limited only by your patience and the supply, because sometimes there are not too many of them in a family. When it comes to thinking about wedding gift ideas, consider candy canes and candy bars, as the ideal present to encourage children to participate in your wedding, and even motivate others outside your family, such as your neighbors’ sons or those of your friends or co-workers. Many brides are concerned about the role of children according to their ages and where they have to work in the procession. In the United States, the role of flower girls and ring bearers are limited to children under age 6, but that trend does not exclude children of any other age if they are willing to participate and perform their role accordingly. Wedding gift ideas may include presents made with candy bars decorated attractively. Gifts including candy canes along with a toy or a wedding favor, can be enough to make any child participate responsibly, although the older they get the more likely they may not be as thrilled to participate in the wedding party, but ask them if they want to, it never hurts. Children from 3 to 6 can be enrolled as a flower girl, ring-bearer, or trainbearer, while those from 7 to 10 can also participate by carrying candles or the prayer book in the wedding procession, tending to the guestbook, as well as handing out programs and flowers to mothers and grandmothers. However, you can adjust these age ranges according to your family circumstances and the children’s desire to participate, including those young teens from age 11 to 15, who can receive the titles of junior bridesmaid or junior groomsman, adding the dignity they need as adolescent attendants. Disregarding their ages, include children when planning your wedding gift ideas, remembering that there is no need for fancy presents. Everybody loves candy and candy bars are an all-time favorite available in a variety of flavors, colors and fantasy shapes, or simply shaped like candy canes, which can also serve as placeholders with a card attached to the bow. Natalie Aranda writes about family and relationship. Planning a wedding is as exciting as the big day itself, once the engagement is official. Law of Attraction Resolves Diet Controversy

By Jeannette Maw Whod have thought healthy eating could be so controversial? Lunching at my girlfriend’s house one afternoon, I held my tongue as her neighbors who’d joined us argued the virtues of their respective diets. And not like nice girls would! Shelli is an avid high protein diet fan, while Debra is a food combining aficionado. Clearly they were both former debate champions, as neither would give up until shed convinced the other the error of her ways. Conflicting Info The fact is we often run across conflicting information when it comes to good nutrition. Low fat, no fat, good fat, high protein, vegetarian, no sugar, low carb, good carb, juice fasts, vegan, food combining, whole foods, raw foods the list of alternative diets can be exhausting even to the initiated. In fact, 20/20’s John Stossel recently reported theres no scientific proof that even drinking eight glasses of water a day is beneficial! And to confuse matters even more, we dont receive consistent results on these programs. While one woman feels fantastic on Atkins, another feels sluggish. One person can thrive on a vegetarian diet, while another develops intense cravings and low energy. Whats a good-intending girl to do in the face of so much conflicting information? What Really Matters Its simpler than it looks. There are no hard and fast rules about whats good for these bodies of ours. What determines the condition of our body - more than anything - are our beliefs, intentions, and feelings. If you expect a certain program to help you feel better and lose weight, thats one factor on your side. If youre able to feel good about yourself and intend successful results at the same time, youve likely got a winner. That doesnt mean your sister will have the same experience, however. Tip the Scale in Your Favor A little talked about, but much-experienced, universal law provides the answer to the questions about what diet works best. It turns out it isnt the diet that matters its what you THINK about the diet. Bottom line, its the beliefs you have about the program and the results you expect that determine whether youll get the body you want. This universal law is known as the Law of Attraction, and it is all-powerful in delivering what you want. The Law of Attraction says that like attracts like, which also translates to as you think, so shall it be. For example, a woman who feels fat day in and day out will have a difficult time achieving long-term results that make her feel otherwise, no matter how little she eats or how much she exercises. However, someone who is able to consistently see herself in the body of her dreams, and feel fantastic in the skin shes in, will soon find reality conforming to her expectations regardless of what she eats or how she exercises. As an attraction coach specializing in helping women get the bodies they want, I find the biggest obstacle we experience in our weight loss success is the inability to focus on the end result. Invariably those who fail time and again habitually focus on what they dont want, rather than what they do. Changing this perspective is the key to creating a healthy body at a healthy weight. But dont tell that to my girlfriends neighbors. Theyre too busy arguing over the details that dont matter! Jeannette Maw is a Law of Attraction Coach and founder of Good Vibe Coaching. She specializes in helping women get the bodies theyve always wanted by identifying their invisible obstacles. Liposuction: A Surgical Way To Weight Loss

By Javier Fuller A considerable part of the world’s population is overweight which brings weight loss on the agenda of virtually every other person on the planet. Cutting down on calorie intake, increasing physical activity are a few conventional ways of shedding extra weight. These techniques work, but take they take their own time and you are most likely to get a little impatient in this case. Every one want results– quick, effective and visible. Liposuction is the answer. Also called ‘lipoplasty’ and ’suction lipectomy’, the method basically involves a cosmetic surgery for the removal of fat from many different parts of the body which may include thighs, abdomen, buttocks or arms. The fat-removal is usually performed by a respiorator and cannula. Liposuction however is not exactly an alternative method for weight loss. It is actually a surgical method for body contouring, wherein the how much fat is removed varies depending upon the doctor, the patient and the method used. It is not that you can get as much fat removed as you want. There are a number of factors that restrict the amount of fat that can be removed safely in a single session. It is a decision that the surgeaon and the patient make. Excessive fat removal can produce what look like dents in the skin. Therefore, if you have heard or read of someone having got 25 kgs of fat removed in a session, it is exaggeration. The kind of body contouring that liposuction makes possible can make one appear to have lost weight far greater than the amount of fat actually removed. Liposuction may be performed with general or local anesthesia. The technique is safe so long as only optimum amount of fat tissues are removed, a safe anaesthsia is chosen and carefully admnintered and the overall health of the patient is sound. Liposuction is quite a modern body contouring technique and is attributed to the French surgeon, Charles Dujarier. However, way back in 1926 gangrene developed in a French model’s leg after Dr Dujarier had perfomred liposuction on her. This casued the contouring to be discontinued for decades after that. Liposuction came back in its modern outlook aftre the 1982-presentation by Dr Yves-Gerard Illouz. Through the 1980s it is experimented with mixed results. Then, in the late 1990s, ultrasound stepped in to facilitate fat removal through ultrasonic energy. Now, after three decades of medical experimentation and improvement, fat cells can be removed with little blood loss and with largely reduced risk. However, there are still a few questions asked about the safety and practicability of this method, but by and large, medical preatitioners have accepted liposuction as an option.
